NLEOMF AND THE UNITED STATES CAPITOL HISTORICALSOCIETY HONOR FALLEN U.S. CAPITOL POLICE OFFICERS

Press Release- August 3, 2005

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, the U.S. Capitol Police, and the White House Commission on Remembrance will be partnering with the United States Capitol Historical Society for the unveiling of their 2006 "We, the People" Calendar and Holiday Ornament on Thursday, August 11, 2005.

D.C. Capitol Police Chief Terrance Gainer and NLEOMF Chairman Craig Floyd will be keynote speakers at the event. Family members of the fallen officers and a Color Guard will be present as the calendar and ornament are unveiled.

The 2006 Calendar honors the three U.S. Capitol Police officers who have died in the line of duty: Officer Jacob Joseph Chestnut, Sergeant Christopher Sherman Eney and Special Agent John Michael Gibson. The images of these fallen heroes will flank the cover of the 2006 calendar.

The cover is from a painting by artist Patrick Reid O'Brien, the 5th great grandson of Thomas Ustick Walter, Architect of the 19th century U. S. Capitol extension and expanded Dome.

In addition, each month showcases a picture of the U.S. Capitol Police performing various duties throughout history. A quote from NLEOMF Chairman Craig W. Floyd is featured in the month of December.

The U. S. Capitol Historical Society has produced the award-winning "We, the People"Calendar since 1968.
