Downtown for Dinner
There's somenthing special about going downtown for dinner. The choices are deep and you can always count on it being fun, great food, architecture, ambiance and the smell of restaurant air from big exhaust fans. This Cathedral right at Marion Square was the first dramatic image I recall about downtown the first time I visited. The sun lit up the side and the steeple rose majestically as we approached from the Upper end of King.
I gotta get out of downtown by 10pm because that is when the town pivots toward the young cool people night life. I was once young and cool but am now 30 years past my "cool" expiration date and those 'kids " run a little hotter than I can do. But... everyonce in a while , Valerie says "Let's go Dancing " after our dinner and a Manhattan or two. "Uh oh, we are pushing into Uber country. " and off we go.
The steeple of St Matthew's Lutheran Church is 297 feet and is the tallest building in Charleston, and is the benchmark by which no other building is taller. I love the holy city.
