I have always loved the soft edges and rich ethereal broken colors that Claude Monet painted. Before I moved to Mt pleasant , I was familiar with the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Golden Gate bridge. Each was powerful and impressive, iconic on the skyline but none of them evoked emotional responses the way that This Cooper river Bridge does. I can see it for miles from different vantage points , above Daniel Island , from the marshwalk on Shem Creek, From Johns Island, it always rises up and stands proud, a reminder that this is my home. I was fortunate to go on a sunset river brithday cruise for a friend, George and, shot a lot of photos from all around and under the bridge. I loved this view and improvised a bit placing a small sailboat drawn up on the shore with daytrippers exploring the grassy island that holds one of the central columns.

I imagine that if Claude Monet ever visited Charleston, he too would fall in love with the beauty of this special place and if we were contemporaries, we would paint landscapes of what we love. This bridge is home, an ever changing icon in the low country sky, sharing joy to all who know it. This painting is a tribute to Claude Monet and a celebration for all who have found the Joy of living here in the Charleston area.
