I painted The Roseate Spoonbill to celebrate the diversity and beauty of the natural world the Lord created. In the setting light of the marsh, the spoonbill forages for its last meal of the day, glowing with color against the quiet water and grasses. The inspiration came from a visit to the rookery in Beaufort, where thousands of waterfowl gather in the trees at sunset. Seeing roseate spoonbills everywhere felt rare and unforgettable. Their color, shape, and presence were so striking that I wanted to bring one close to the viewer, so you could feel the wonder of that moment and see this extraordinary bird as both elegant and alive.
